The Glenmore Plaza Hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Avalon, the only town on Santa Catalina, a popular island off of southern California. Commonly known as Catalina, the island is a picturesque tourist destination, although much of the island was purchased in 1975 by the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy and now is preserved against development. Most visitors to Catalina come for water sports, hiking, horseback riding and cycling trails. Visitors can get to Catalina on one of the regular cruises from Long Beach, San Pedro, Redondo Beach or Newport Beach. Located just steps from the beach, the Glenmore is a four-story Victorian hotel with 46 non-smoking guestrooms, each featuring cable TV, complimentary toiletries, ceiling fan, and mini-refrigerator upon request. Complimentary amenities include wireless Internet access in the lobby, daily continental breakfast, and transportation to and from the boat dock. The hotel does not have a restaurant or an elevator.

From Orange County/John Wayne Airport:Approximate driving time is 21 minutes and distance is 8 miles. From Long Beach/Daugherty Airport:Approximate driving time is 37 minutes and distance is 26.5 miles. From Los Angeles International Airport:Approximate driving time is 55 minutes and distance is 44 miles. Please note: the end destination for the times/distances above is the Catalina boat terminal in Newport Beach, where guests can find transportation to the island via boat. The hotel provides complimentary transportation from the boat dock.Guests also have the option of getting to the island via helicopter; departure points are the San Pedro and Long Beach boat terminals. The helicopter lands at Pebbly Beach, about three- quarters of a mile from Avalon. Taxis are available, with fares starting at $6.30 for two passengers (prices subject to change without notice); guests wishing to take a taxi should alert the pilot, who will radio in the request. |
